It’s an annual brainstorming affair to pick the right Valentine’s Day gifts for your loved ones, so let us help you out with 12 beauty products which are suitable for both Him and Her.
Perfumes for Her
If it hasn’t hit you yet, Valentine’s Day in the modern times is a romantic event. Therefore, our perfume recommendations tend to lean towards perfumes that have romantic connotations. Since we don’t want to drown you in perfume choices, so we decided to just put up three for this category.
1. Love Story by Chloe
Love Story by Chloe is a white floral perfume, and has been described as smelling “clean and fresh”. As the name suggests, Love Story by Chloe is as romantic as they come. Just take a look at their trailer if you aren’t convinced! Did you notice the padlocks? It turns out that the inspiration behind Love Story comes from Parisian romance and the love padlocks on the bridge of the Pont des Arts!
Ladies just love having some romance on Valentine’s Day, so you can be as cheesy as you want when you watch them open your gift. *hint hint*
If you feel that Love Story doesn’t quite convey your feelings appropriately in a serious relationship, you can choose to jump the gun by going straight for Marry Me by Lanvin. Think about all the possible suggestions you can hint to your lady with this gift! (Not to mention its potential as a prop for proposal) This perfume has all the good connotations – for a serious relationship of course. Also, Valentine’s Day is one of the most popular days for wedding proposals! Just saying.
Like Love Story, Marry Me by Lanvin is a floral perfume. Curious that both perfumes centered on romance by name are floral scents no? Maybe its because flowers are usually gifted at every romantic event (Valentine’s, Weddings, Anniversaries)?
Tired of all the romantic connotations and just want something more light-hearted? Don’t worry, our next recommendation takes a completely different approach.
3. Fresh Couture by Moschino
Contrary to popular belief, this perfume (yes, its actually a perfume!) does not work well on windows. Probably. I mean, we’ve never actually tried. For those of you who came down for our yearly Warehouse sale, you would have been introduced to this bizarre design – which had garnered its fair share of laughter from our customers. Although it has a striking resemblance to the spray bottle your mother probably uses, rest assured, for nothing actually comes out when you push back the red ledge.
Fresh Couture by Moschino has a fresh (no duh!) fruity scent that is suitable for all ages. If you’re feeling mischievous this Valentines day, then this is the perfect gift for you!
Perfumes for Him
Although romance is one of the governing factors in choosing perfumes for females for Valentine’s Day, we decided to take a different approach for the perfumes for men. Practicality is an important point when choosing a gift for a male. Therefore, the perfumes chosen are those that have long longevity, and also those that men probably wouldn’t pick up and try on their own – they probably prefer deodorant (my boyfriend does, but giving deodorant as a gift… meh).
The desert is dead hot, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that this perfume is both strong and long lasting. So strong, in fact, that many reviewers suggest that other users limit the use of this perfume to 2-3 sprays. A fresh spicy scent, along with good silage makes the Sauvage quite the crowd-pleaser.
Oh, and this perfume is advertised by Johnny Depp, if it actually matters to your man.
2. Bleu de Chanel by Chanel
Bleu de Chanel is one of those perfumes that make it on every ‘Top 10 perfumes for Men’ list. Bleu de Chanel comes in both EDT and EDP versions (the one in the picture is the EDP version), and the thing is – both versions are extremely popular. Bleu de Chanel EDP has an inoffensive woody, balsamic scent, while the EDT has a fresh spicy citrus scent. Both versions come with good silage and long longevity. According to the reviews, 2 sprays of this perfume can last most of the day – which is great, since he wouldn’t have to bring his perfume out with him!
If your man dislikes using perfume, Bleu de Chanel also comes in the form of an after shave lotion, after shave balm, shower gel, deodorant stick, and deodorant spray.
3. Spicebomb by Viktor & Rolf
The perfume is literally a spice bomb – in the sense that it has a warm spicy scent, and is in a bottle that resembles a bomb. If your man is a military man, or a collector of interesting bottles, this should be straight up his alley. Spicebomb by Viktor & Rolf has great silage and appears to be long lasting as well.
This perfume is actually the male version of their Flowerbomb series – you can check that out if you’re into bombs.
Cosmetics/Skincare for Her
As ladies are very particular about their makeup, we won’t actually be recommending things like BB cushions, and foundations and what not. Those should be left to the experts (Read: Your Lady). Instead, we will be recommending items that are either pretty or pampering products (not diapers, mind you!)
1. Flower Jelly Lipstick by Kailijumei
Just look at how gorgeous this is!!! The Kailijumei Flower Jelly Lipsticks was immensely popular in late 2016 – so much so that it was sold out multiple times at their website. I have actually been stealing my sister’s Dream Purple variation whenever she’s not home (shhh!). Not only is it pretty to look at, it also changes colour based on one’s body temperature and the number of times applied.
Instead of buying a bouquet of flowers, why not buy something more practical, but still pretty to look at?
Lips are especially important for females (and whoever likes putting on lipstick). That being said, not many of us pamper our lips outside of applying lip balm. In fact, some people may not even know you can have a mask for your lips!
Which is exactly why Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask is one of our recommended products for Valentines Day. This year, Beureka has brought in the limited edition flavoured lip sleeping masks (which is awesome). During our warehouse sale in December 2016, Apple Lime literally flew off the shelves, and we had trouble restocking them for a period of time, so if you’re unsure of the flavours your spouse likes, my personal recommendation is to just go for the Apple Lime flavour.
3. Pinky Piggy Collagen Pack by April Skin
Beureka has long been on the lookout for April Skin products, so when this little piggy was released, we knew we had to grab it. Just look at those stubby fingers! *wave wave wave*
The lil’ piggy comes in two variations – the collagen pack (we all know what collagen is right?) and the carbonated pack. The carbonated pack works like a cleanser, clearing black heads, repairing wrinkles and whitening your skin (to be used twice a week). The collagen pack, on the other hand, works like a moisturiser.
Although April Skin boasts an all-natural ingredient list, there are quite a number of people who have not tried them yet. This works in your favour because women love trying new things and gifts are always a good excuse for them to try new things.
Cosmetics/Skincare for Him
Getting skincare for men is really tricky. This is mainly because the wave of skincare for men has yet to reach the shores of Singapore, unlike Japan – where the market for men’s beauty products has been rapidly expanding.
As always, the recommendations given for men are based on practicality.
1. SK-II Men Facial Treatment Essence
If your man is even remotely interested in maintaining or improving his skin condition, the products by SK-II Men is the best way to go. Not only is it a reputable and trusted brand, it is also one brand that is readily available in Singapore. Furthermore, as SK-II has multiple counters in Singapore, you can always look to them for advice on the off chance that something goes wrong.
Of course, the reputable Facial Treatment Essence is not the only product that SK-II Men has, but it is the star product of SK-II. Also, we think that men would be likely to skip the moisturiser, and he may or may not use the cleanser anyway.
Besides, we have a different recommendation for the cleanser-moisturiser slot.
2. 4-in-1 Essential Face Tonic by Ursa Major
This 4-in-1 Essential Face Tonic by Ursa Major not only cleanses his face, but also acts as an exfoliator, a hydrating agent, and it is also said to take care of irritation and inflammation. You would probably have a better chance of convincing your man to start his skincare regiment by using this multi-purpose product instead of the combination of SK-II Men’s cleanser and moisturiser, not to mention it costs significantly lesser as well. If he really gets into the skincare regime, then you can pull out the big guns.
3. Anti-pore Blackhead Clear Kit by CNP
I actually like this product a lot, so I was very disappointed when Beureka stopped selling them. *stares at boss* Alright, alright.
The main reason this became one of the recommendations is simply because there is something really satisfying about seeing all the gunk pop up. And the thing is – men don’t know that they have black heads. So when they try this out, they’ll be like “holy shit! This is so cool!” And the best thing is that you’ll be right there beside him going, “I know right”, all the while rolling your gunk away from your nose.
Now, I would have recommended pore strips because it’s a lot less work, but I recently read an article about the side effects of pore strips. Other articles also suggest similar side effects – irritation and bleeding. Urgh. That’s really bad. I am so swearing off pore strips.
So that’s all folks! Thanks for tuning in to the Top 12 Valentine’s Day Gifts for Him and Her. Some of the product recommendations above aren’t available on our website yet, but we might just consider bringing them in if you all request for it! What are some of the gifts you think we should include in this list too? Let us know in the comments section below.
